Apollon – Olympique Lyonnais

Apollon hosts Olympique Lyonnais in a match from Group E of the Europa League. The match is going to be played in the city of Limassol, Cyprus.

Once again, Olympique Lyonnais couldn’t qualify for the Champions League, so they will have to participate again in the Europa League. Last season Lyonnais went far in the tournament, before being eliminated by Ajax. Now they will try to replicate their performance and have another strong campaign.

Bruno Genesio’s team started well the new season in Ligue 1. Inspired by its new striker Mariano Diaz, Lyonnais recorded three wins and two draws in the first five matches of the French league. In its last game OL beat Guingamp at home with 2-1.

If we accept that PSG and Monaco are the two best teams in France at the moment, Lyonnais will make another try to return to the Champions League. But until this happens, they will have to satisfy themselves playing in the Europa League.

As for Apollon, they started the new season in the Cyprus’ 1. Division with a 1-1 away draw against Olympiakos. Last season was successful for the club, having qualified for the Europa League. Now the goal will be the same – to perform as good as possible and once again reach the European competitions.

There’s no surprise that Olympique Lyonnais are favourites in this game. The French club is much bigger than its next opponent, but don’t forget that it’s always difficult to play in Cyprus. The teams from this country are usually pretty tough, so do not underrestimate Apollon too easily. You could regret this afterwards.

But yes – everything is pointing out for successful beginning for Olympique Lyonnais in the group stage of Europa League. The French club is one of the favourites to reach the final stages of the competition.
